Today we’re having a catch up with Samantha to talk all about her gorgeous destination wedding in Capri. I love working with couples at their destination weddings, ensuring brides have the make-up look they have always wanted – whether they’re in Italy, Spain or any other far-flung location.

I offer a UK-based trial to work with you to achieve the perfect bridal make-up look and will then join you at your destination wedding venue, to give you and your bridal party the make-up experience of your dreams. With years of experience working at destination weddings, you can count on me to manage the variables of hair and make-up artistry in a variety of different climates and locations.

Couples often find that the language barrier can mean the finger details are lost in translation and it can be difficult when trying to convey your ideas and visions. Calm, professional and friendly, my service means you can relax and look forward to your destination wedding, no matter in the world where it may be. So, let’s get chatting to Samantha…

Magical, Unique, Relaxed

Samantha, tell us a little bit about your wedding day!

“From the moment we visited Capri we knew it was the place for us to get married, the relaxed charm and beautiful sea made us feel that this was our place. We wanted to get married in the Town Hall of Piazza Umberto, the contrast of classic Italian frivolity, hustle and bustle and timeless beauty and significance of the Piazetta made it so special, the Italian locals and tourists all chimed in to give us a fabulous welcome as we entered the square and send off as we left for the reception at one of the most beautiful places on the coastline. All our guests were waiting for us at Bagni International in Marina Piccolo, such an exquisite little beach restaurant and club and they had never hosted a wedding before ours, so we felt very privileged and were blown away by their utmost professionalism, charisma and attention to detail. It was truly mesmerising! We ate like kings, enjoyed stunning fine local wines and partied overlooking the moon river on the sea.

Why did you choose Liz Patey MUA for your destination wedding?

“I have known Liz for many years and always admire her talent, tenacity and passion to get her work exactly right. She always listens intently to what you would like (and don’t like!) and is just a lovely person to be around, she fits in perfectly as one of the girls!”

What did everybody wear?

“We went for earthy colours to blend in with the natural beauty of the venue. The adult bridesmaids wore dresses in Eucalyptus and Mocha. My daughter, Suri had a beautiful handmade dress in white while Aleksi wore a mid-blue suit and simple white shirt.

My dress was of mermaid style with a satin champagne base covered in lace to give it that romantic feel, the dress had an additional train of lace to allow movement and flow like the water. I had a full cathedral veil for the ceremony in the same lace as the dress. My shoes were sparkling peep toe heeled sandals by Jimmy Choo and were perfect all day long!

My hair was half up, curled to give a soft, feminine look and follow the cut of my dress. I had a simple symmetrical band that was slightly art deco in style with mother of pearl to pick up the warmth of the dress. I wanted a natural pretty look but also glamorous and sexy, this was slightly challenging in the heat as most Italians do not marry until the evening!”

How did you decorate your ceremony and reception?

“We decorated the ceremony and reception with nude and blush peonies, tall elegant vases on the tables and a scattering of peonies all around the wedding cake. We used an abundance of candles, as many as we could to give set about to provide a soft glow as we transitioned from sunset to evening. The beautiful scenery was the perfect backdrop.”

What did your guests eat and drink?

“Prior to dinner we enjoyed a selection of Italian canapés during the cocktail reception and then a five course Italian style meal (with intervals for the speeches!) including traditional Italian appetisers, Fish, Lobster, Steak and Italian desserts! Followed by wedding cake plus fruit canapés and late-night nibbles although most people were too busy dancing to refuel! There was a choice of fine white, rosé or red wine, hand made fresh cocktails and soft drinks plus the full bar suite!”

How did you keep guests entertained?

“We kept a very natural flow to the day, all photography was taken as people enjoyed themselves. Copious amounts of good food, wine, company and the breath-taking views!”

What was your favourite part of the day?

  • “Aleksi singing to me! You are So beautiful… Actually so many favourites!
  • Seeing Aleksi waiting in the Town Hall, the beautiful softness in his eyes.
  • Suri helping me to dress and carry my flowers moved me to tears.
  • The girls arriving one by one in the morning with different stories giggling their way through the morning and relieving my nerves!
  • Seeing both sets of parents so happy and in tears!
  • Seeing all our closest family and friends, relaxed and having a wonderful time and enjoying themselves altogether.
  • So many moments, it was all magical!”

Do you have any words of advice for future brides and grooms?

“Plan a wedding that reflects your personality, temperament and style and that you both really want. Plan and build your dream together and you will appreciate every little detail that much more. Enjoy every single moment, don’t be nervous, relax and smile a lot, kiss even more, hold hands, love and laugh as it will be over far too quickly!”
